Entry Guide, Criteria and Form

Entry Fee:

A fee of $95 (including GST) is payable per album entered – however, to encourage early entry (which aids the judging process) there is a discounted entry fee until September 30th, 2011 – being only $55. CD stock, entry form and fee must be received by 6pm on September 30th in order to receive the discounted fee. This fee is payable by Cheque or Money Order made payable to “The Australian Music Prize” – or paid by Direct Transfer to:

Entry Form:

The entry form is only accessible online (see below) from the official website from September 1st to October 21st, 2011. Please ensure it is completed in full and that once you receive the confirmation email from us, a copy is printed and signed by the relevant, authorised person. Please complete it after reading ALL of this Guide and ensuring that you and your album are eligible for entry. The person who signs the Entry Form must be either the Artist entering, a member of the Artist entering, or an executive from an entity contracted to the Artist, such as the Management or Record Company.

Entrant Name:

The name of the artist entering the Prize (therefore on the entry form) must be exactly the same as the name of the artist which was marketed to the public on the CD.

CDs:

You are initially required to post (with your entry fee and signed entry form) 10 copies of your album to The Australian Music Prize. These copies must be CDs and must be the same copies that were commercially released (made available for sale) to the general public during the period from 30th Nov 2010 to 30th Nov 2011. By entering you agree to supply further CD copies to the Amp if requested – such may be the case if your entry requires additional judgments in the first stage of the judging process and/or makes it through the first stage.

Australian:

You are only valid as an entrant if you are Australian. For the purposes of The 7th Australian Music Prize, we define Australian as:

NOTE: If the entrant is a group of artists then 50% or more of the members of such group must be Australian as per above.

Type of Entrants / Entry:

  1. Entrants may be individual artists or groups of artists.
  2. The style or genre of the music comprising the Entry is NOT relevant.
  3. The album entered must contain either a minimum of 33 minutes 20 seconds of recorded music (with any number of tracks), or it must contain a minimum of 9 separate tracks AND a minimum of 25 minutes of music. The maximum amount of music is what can fit onto 2 standard audio compact discs.
  4. There are no limits to the number of tracks on the Entry.
  5. The Entry must NOT be a ‘Various Artists’ or compilation release.

Entry Release Conditions:

  1. Each Entry must have been commercially released (made available for purchase by the public of Australia) in Australia.
  2. Commercially released includes sales through any type of retail outlet(s), sales at performances, sales via online retailers – so long as a portion of the Australian public was able to purchase the Entry.
  3. Each Entry must have been commercially released in Australia for a minimum of 20 days during the period from 30th Nov 2010 to 30th Nov 2011.
  4. Each Entry must NOT have been commercially released in any way or in any part of the world prior to 30th Nov 2010.
  5. Each Entry must have been first commercially released no later than 30th Nov 2011.
  6. The Entry must not have been entered in any prior prize conducted by The Australian Music Prize.

Third Party Legal and/or Financial Interest:

If the Entry was produced and/or marketed under any type of exclusive contract with a third party entity(s) (for example, a record company) and/or was produced and marketed utilising any sort of financial support from a third party entity(s), then by signing the entry form you confirm that The Australian Music Prize will only deal with you and is not liable to communicate with such third parties regarding your entry.

Receipt of the Prize:

By signing the entry form you agree that The Australian Music Prize, or PPCA, will only pay the prizemoney (if won) directly to the Artist name as entered and that you (if you win the Prize), as entrant, indemnify The Australian Music Prize against any third party claims to the Prize.

Decisions are Final:

The announcements/publications by The Australian Music Prize of the entrants/entries which have been judged to make The 7th Australian Music Prize Shortlist and then of The 7th Australian Music Prize Winner are FINAL and no communications will be entered into which contest the validity of these. By signing the entry form you agree to accept the results, as judged.

Proof:

By signing the Entry Form you agree to, if requested by the Prize Director, provide proof of you/your Entry’s eligibility to any of the Entry Criteria, Terms & Conditions as stated herein. You acknowledge that prior to the Shortlist being publicly announced in early 2012, it is possible the Prize Director will make enquiries as to the eligibility of you and your Entry for the Prize.

Right of Rejection:

You acknowledge that The Australian Music Prize has the right to reject an entry at any point after receipt if it has reason to believe that not all of the Entry Criteria, Terms & Conditions have been met by the Entrant and/or the Entry. Upon rejection from the Prize, the entry fee is not refundable.

The Amp Longlist:

If you are advised by the Prize Director of The Amp that your Entry has passed through the first stage of judging and therefore forms a part of The 7th Australian Music Prize Longlist then you agree to:

  1. Immediately supply The Australian Music Prize with a further 40 copies of the Entry on CD format for use in the second stage of judging
  2. Make every attempt possible for at least one member of the artist to attend in person The 7th Australian Music Prize Shortlist Event which will be held in Sydney in early February 2012
  3. Advise the Prize Director whether or not the artist would be willing and able to do a short live performance at the Shortlist Event
  4. Supply the Prize Director with relevant artist promotional material such as a biography, logo and photo

The Amp Shortlist:

If you are advised by the Prize Director of The Amp that your entry has passed through the second stage of judging and therefore forms a part of The 7th Australian Music Prize Shortlist then you agree to:

  1. Immediately supply The Australian Music Prize with a further 30 copies of the Entry on CD format for promotional use by The Amp
  2. If asked by the Prize Director, supply more copies of the entry on CD for promotional purposes
  3. Conduct a reasonable quantity of promotional interviews as co-ordinated by the publicist of The Amp
  4. Make every attempt possible for at least one member of the artist to attend in person The 7th Australian Music Prize Winners Event which will be held in Sydney in early March 2012
  5. Work with The Australian Music Prize to license one or more tracks from your entry for use in exclusive media promotions and/or retail compilation releases
  6. Conduct video interviews with a film crew contracted by Coopers, a Principal Partner of The Amp, for use exclusively on their website and YouTube channel

Winning The Amp:

If your entry is the ultimate winner of The 7th Australian Music Prize then within 4 months of winning you agree to undertake one live promotional performance in either Sydney or Melbourne to a limited audience of 250 whom can only obtain tickets from competitions run by our media partners or direct from The Amp.
