Australian Music Industry & Artists Counting Down to March Music Festival 25th Annual South by Southwest Music & Media Festival Opens for Submissions

With artist submissions for showcasing among close to 2000 global bands in front of 15,000 music industry professionals and executives from 55 countries, the 25th annual South by Southwest Music & Media Festival in Austin, Texas March 16-20 2011 has opened for both applications to play and delegate registration.

SxSW--in shorthand--is the world's largest, longest-running and most prestigious combined festival with 89 stages, trade fair with hundreds of international and company stands and music business conference with 100+ panels and top speakers. It's been the launchpad in recent years for Australian and New Zealand bands and labels in 'The Live Music Capital Of The World' where 'Tomorrow Happens Here' in terms of presenting the next new things in contemporary music.

Artist showcase submissions started August 2 and it's expected more than 10,500 bands will apply from over 50 countries before the final deadline of November 5. In 2010, over 250 Australian and 40 New Zealand artists applied--with 29 Australian & 11 NZ bands of 72 invited--playing official showcases and countless other special shows. More than 2500 non-US artists applied of which 500 played in front of 2000+ global media and 13,000 industry representatives.

SxSW has been jokingly called 'The World's Largest Music Flea Market' because it hosts acts in every stage of their development, including music legends such as Metallica, Smokey Robinson, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop and Devo. Bands like The White Stripes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Norah Jones, Cold War Kids and so many more benefited from career changing exposure and publicity provided by the amazing mix of influential participants who attend SXSW every year. From Australia artists such as John Butler Trio, Wolfmother, Missy Higgins, Temper Trap, Children Collide, Gyroscope and Powderfinger debuted and got major overseas exposure.

Kiwi Bands Set Record For US Aural Assault - 13 NZ Acts Primed For Festival

Over 10,000 global artists from 49 countries applied for the coveted 1800 performance slots at the world's largest and most prestigious music industry showcase event - South by Southwest Music & Media Festival in Austin Texas March 17-21 - but it's the Kiwi contingent that scored the most hits with 13 out of 35 submitting artists invited to play. It's the highest ratio of success to submissions of any country, just over 40%, and all of the NZ artists have accepted their invitations to play.
