It was a cold and windy night on Saturday, but that didn’t stop the Freo locals coming in full force for what was to be an entertaining night.

It was a cold and windy night on Saturday, but that didn't stop the Freo locals coming in full force for what was to be an entertaining night.
Kicking it off was local sweetheart Lexie Mgee & The Channel Three (the band consisting of her brother Charlie – Formidable Vegetable frontman – and father) and her postmodern lyrics reminiscent of old-school SoKo. Her sweet, awkward charm had the audience in stitches, proving to be a fun and interesting start to the night.
DJ Matty Moon had the hippie crowd up and dancing while The Brow (formerly The Brow Horn Orchestra)prepared the stage, the crowd slowly swelling to what appeared to be almost full capacity. On the back-end of a comprehensive east coast tour, the crowd-pleasers launched in to Don't You Wanna Sing Forever? and began straight off with the intense vigour they always have on stage. Kicking it up a notch with hip hop number Kick Back And Fight had many of the audience members singing along, and final song Kaboom ended the set with a bang that carried the vibe through the rest of the night.
Fremantle locals (though ironically playing their first Freo gig) Formidable Vegetable Sound System saw the return of Charlie, Lexie and Papa McGee to the stage, accompanied by three other band members. Quickly proving that this was definitely the right crowd for this kind of electro-'permaculture-dubstep'-swing-bluesy-jazz parfait of musical stylings, every song, from Yield to No Such Thing As Waste were both lyrically and musically very clever, singing about permaculture and it's value in modern society. Rounding off the night with Lexie performing a burlesque-styled strip dance as 'Ginger LeMinge' was definitely an unexpected but brilliant highlight, and the crowd left thoroughly breathless and satisfied.
