If she’s capable of this kind of show after such a short time in the spotlight, it will be fascinating to see where she’s headed.

More Azealia Banks More Azealia Banks

Getting the party started quickly, Nina Las Vegas burst straight into a set of party bangers for the already bustling and buzzing crowd. A bunch of punters in rave getup were already gnashing their teeth in chemically enhanced anticipation. Although not being billed or announced, Sydney DJ Georgia Magree pushed the pop trap beats up a notch with a frantic set that pre-empted Banks' DJ Cosmo's introduction. He started strong with tight hooks from big hits, but a massive crash took the wind out of his sails in an instant and he couldn't get the crowd back despite playing obvious crowd pleasers.

Azealia Banks, adorned in a new weave and a bra-top featuring flashing lights, hit the stage tough as nails and the place went berserk. With only an EP and a mixtape behind her at this point, the setlist consisted primarily of very short snippets of her Fantasea mix, delivered in chunks of about a minute and a half with delays in between for her to introduce each song. It was very jarring, but this unorthodox, recital approach did nothing to diminish the crowd's enthusiasm and every bite-sized piece was delivered brilliantly.

When everything gelled it was explosive – the set closer of her breakthrough smash 212 was ferociously jumping. She tacked on a bit of The Prodigy's Firestarter at the end, which would have seemed out of context except for the fact that the group were actually there enjoying the show as well.

It's easy to forget the acceleration of Banks' career – it's only been just over a year since her first single dropped. If she's capable of this kind of show after such a short time in the spotlight, it will be fascinating to see where she's headed.
