As polished as our Argyle diamonds is the only way I can describe the performance of the Darling Buds Of May. After their successful opening of the Perth Fringe Festival, how were they going to back up in the De Parel Spiegeltent? The band from the hills of Perth rocked and swinged the enthusiastic audience away to a bygone era. From the Andrews Sisters to Star Wars (you will need to go and see why Star Wars gets a mention), this swing revue captured the hearts and imagination of the audience.

Their sheer exuberance for this style of music, swing to be exact, was not only great to listen to but highly entertaining. The rapport with the audience was humorously built by the lead singer Jessie Gordon's sense of comic timing coupled with her melodious voice, which held the audience throughout the generous 90-minute set. Several special guests appeared during the show and spun their musical and dancing magic. This was much more than just a gig.

With an accomplished rhythm section and spectacular horn section these guys have world-class written all over them. I hope the Fringe can schedule this talented sextet on an earlier slot. Do yourself a favour and be whisked away to another era at The Swing Revue.
