Nothing is avoided so undoubtedly the play is for audiences that like to be confronted.

The market is hot for works that delve the ugly and wild depths of 20-something femininity. Gone are the days of worry for the male market with the success of Lena Dunham's Girls. Strong, young female voices are emerging. I Know There Is A Lot Of Noise Outside But Close Your Eyes is the perfect example. The play was developed by the performance collective I'm Trying To Kiss You, consisting of  the shows director Allison Wiltshire and performers Anna McCarthy and Zoey Dawson. It follows old high school friends Katie (McCarthy) and Imogen (Dawson) as they try to catch up despite the different directions their lives have taken. The play sort of explodes from that starting point. It moves swiftly from the barely disguised hostility between the two women to the deepest recesses and impulses of their minds. Everything is laid bare. McCarthy and Dawson do an admirable job to never lose the audience's empathy as the dialogue plunges the depths of their characters in experimental and unexpected ways. The script keeps it all together nicely as it weaves around their anger, prejudice, jealously, resentment, desire and sexuality.  Nothing is avoided so undoubtedly the play is for audiences that like to be confronted.
