"It’s a no surprises, psych-out release"

Meet Gum, Tame Impala/Pond's Jay Watson solo. It's a no surprises, psych-out release; you know Watson and friends are prolific and distinct, and you know that his demonstrated hold on the psych and shoegaze genres will make this release soar. If it were a Pond album it would fill the sonic gap between Beard, Wives, Denim (2012) and Hobo Rocket (2013), but this is all Watson. The Sky Opened Up owes much to the melodic psych-pop of 13th Floor Elevators before the lush jam-out, while 21st Century Radiation is an obvious high point thanks to the manic guitar line.
