Album Review: Ben Watt - Hendra

Everything is relatively down-tempo and low-key, with Watt’s plain but warm voice guiding the listener through the music.

More Ben Watt More Ben Watt

It's taken Ben Watt 30 years to follow up his debut solo album, North Marine Drive. Electro-pop duo Everything But The Girl and dance label Buzzin' Fly have been keeping him busy in the meantime. Hendra attempts to strip Watt's musical language back to a very simple singer-songwriter essence. Everything is relatively down-tempo and low-key, with Watt's plain but warm voice guiding the listener through the music. Every now and then the guitars start to pick up or the tempo gives the listener a little nudge, but for the most part, this album glides by effortlessly.
