Album Review: A Gazillion Angry Mexicans - Juan, Two, Three, Four

"This high-octane release offers a refreshingly intricate brand of pub-rock."

More straight-up rock'n'roll than the Mexicana aesthetic their name suggests, this hairy EP is dominated by the sweltering riffs and screeching vocals showcased in single Black & Blue Blues. They draw on a range of influences from the speedy pace of Arctic Monkeys to brooding Queens Of The Stone Age guitar tones. It feels as if they're treading too wide a ground, but this high-octane release offers a refreshingly intricate brand of pub-rock. A prelude to what could only be more vivacious in a live setting.
