"I love that each artist can make a completely different genre of music using the same tools."

Answered by: 10k - Singer/Game Boy composer

Where are you from? Australia.

What's your favourite thing about chipmusic/the chiptune scene? The scene is made up by a set of tools, as opposed to a 'genre'. I love that each artist can make a completely different genre of music using the same tools. While I write hardcore punk, others write EDM.

What track would you recommend newbies to chip music check out as a gateway song? Anamanaguchi - Meow. These guys are the biggest in the scene. Great place to start.

What influences your music the most? Blink-182, sardonic attitudes, beer and anti-social behaviour.

What's your favourite piece of equipment and why? The Game Boy (closely followed by the microphone). It's a cliché within chipmusic, but because it is a relatively easy tool to get started with, that has an incredibly high skill ceiling once you start digging deeper.

What's your favourite video game and why? Skate 3! Get hurt less!

What can we expect from your set at Square Sounds? Myself yelling over a crudely put together Game Boy backing track, with far more talented friends of mine accompanying me on real instruments (ie. guitar, bass and drums).

What day and time are you playing at Square Sounds? 8.50pm, 5 Mar.

Square Sounds Festival is held at Evelyn Hotel on 4 & 5 Mar.
