You’ve got a new EP on its way – what’s the process been like in putting that together? It’s been fantastic, we’ve really had a lot of fun this time around. We recorded at Loop studios in Leederville using lots of vintage gear, so that was awesome. We went into the studio to record five tracks and came out with eight. We are super excited to drop our new single next week.

What does it mean to you to be nominated for a WAM award? It’s always great to be recognised by industry for the hard work that we put in, but it’s not really about awards for me. It’s just about expressing ourselves through the art we create and if that’s getting recognition then that’s awesome.

What have been the key things over the last year that you think have lead to you being nominated? It was a bit of a surprise to be nominated but it’s been a busy year for us and we’ve played some great shows, so I guess the nomination is a reflection of that.

How integral do you think WAM is to the music scene in Perth? I think WAM has an important role to play in strengthening the WA industry for up-and-coming and established working artists, which has been happening through its education programs throughout the year and the WAM Conference which seems to be building momentum each year.

What’re you going to do with your award if you win? Straight to the pool room I guess, The Amani Consort are just happy to be nominated and our focus is really on playing out our new material.

When and where? 8 Nov, WAM Festival, Block Party, Roe St Wilson Car Park
