prediction for 2018

As foreshadowed by Kanye West, rappers no longer want to be called 'rappers' - they see it as a limitation. People haven't twigged yet. The feud between Ye and Taylor Swift officially marks the death of postmodernism. They're the two most meta pop artists of their era - and creatively symbiotic. But the postmodern enterprise is incompatible with the challenges arising from identity politics where specifics and tangibilities matter. Regardless, Ye will be the victor because he's more aware - and inquisitive. This year Tricky cut an album with totally G Russian MCs and beatmakers - and post-Soviet spaces are set to produce music innovators. Oh, and techno is really back this time.
