The journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step

One of the guys from Bloc Party has launched his solo career with an indie-rock track that sounds like a Bloc Party song without Kele Okereke’s vocals.

The guy, who is not Kele Okereke, took the opportunity of Okereke doing something that isn’t Bloc Party to write, record and release his first solo single. Approaching the song in much he same way he would when writing for Bloc Party, he feels the result is familiar, but “completely different”.

“It’s given me a chance to branch out and do something completely different,” this guy said. “Throughout my time with Bloc Party I’ve accumulated a stack of songs that for whatever reason just weren’t right for the band.”

He added, “I’ve actually been working on a few more tracks for my debut EP which are actually Bloc Party tracks but without Kele’s vocals.”

Fans have been quick to praise – and purchase – the track, saying it has all the hallmark tones, riffs and moods of this guy’s playing with Bloc Party. Fan-club president David Calder-Rhubarb did have some reservations, though, and said, “The track lacks that final 10 percent that would make it a really great song.

“I’d love to see Kele have a go over the top of it, that’d be really interesting to hear — that sort of innovation is what we’ve missed since the last thing Bloc Party did.”
