Hayley Williams Talks Controversial 'Misery Business' Lyrics At Paramore Gig In Sydney
The singer took a moment to address the song.
Hayley Williams took a moment to address the crowd at Paramore's show in Sydney last night regarding controversial lyrics in their hit 2007 single, Misery Business.
The lyric in the track, "Once a whore, you’re nothing more / I’m sorry that’ll never change" have been scrutinised in the last few years and prior to performing the song at Qudos Bank Arena last night, the US singer discussed the controversy.
"The most important thing to take away from tonight, not even having anything to do with the song we're about to play, is that the people we are today, let's say in 2018, is not the same people we were in 2006..." Williams said.
"… So as we play this next song together, I want you to celebrate the fact that we’re growing, and we’re moving forward, and we’re changing.

Williams' comments come after she directly addressed the controversy in a 2015 blog, writing "I read a couple comments today about how I can’t be feminist or whether or not I'm a 'good' feminist.
"To speak specifically to one of those comments, I’ll say this: Misery Business is not a set of lyrics that I relate to as a 26 year old woman. I haven’t related to it in a very long time. Those words were written when I was 17… admittedly, from a very narrow-minded perspective."
