Sydney Festival To Celebrate Australia’s First Day Of Legal Same-Sex Marriage

To mark the day same-sex couples in Australia will finally be able formally marry on Jan 9, Sydney Festival is throwing the ultimate gay wedding reception.

The free event will let revellers take a dip in a bright pink swimming pool, bust a groove or two at JOF’s 10 Minute Dance Parties, and channel their inner wedding singer on the world’s first Karaoke Carousel. DJ Charlie Villas will also be on hand with a set of classic wedding reception bangers.

Black Star Pastry and My Little Panda Kitchen will also be getting into the wedding spirit with bespoke wedding cakes for the reception, including an epic five-tier pavlova cake, in the colours of the gay pride rainbow flag.  Gelato Messina will also have a limited edition special on offer: Equality Time takes its inspiration from the from the Aussie ice cream favourite, with salted caramel and fior di latte gelato coated in biscuit crumb.

The event takes place at the Meriton Festival Village in Hyde Park between 6 and 8pm on Tuesday Jan 9, and is free to enter.
