Many acts pulled out after allegedly not receiving payment.

Controversy surrounding Earthcore has continued this week, with reports that the company which owns the trance festival is set to fold this year.

As Herald Sun reports, documents lodged to Australian Securities and Investments Commission cite a notification of application to close Yellow Sunshine Pty Ltd; the majority owner of Earthcore.

The documents were reportedly lodged on 4 December, but were effective on 1 December.

Festival director Spiro Boursinos has been the sole director and secretary of Yellow Sunshine since at least 2013.

The news comes after a number of acts cancelled appearances at this year's Earthcore festival just days out, citing an alleged lack of payment, while the festival's Sydney event was also axed at the last minute.

Boursine has had a controversial history in the past with events he has run.

As reported by Fairfax in 2011, Boursine had run up debts of over $1 million in failed music industry ventures.

Earthcore Productions, which Boursine was a director for, owed creditors almost $120,000 in 2001 and in 2007, a company he was associated with, Good Trix, went into administration and owed creditors around $832,000.

Another company linked to Boursine, Dance Aid, was deregistered in 2010.
