A new director has been announced to take over upcoming Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, just days after Bryan Singer was sacked

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has confirmed UK filmmaker Dexter Fletcher will take over with filming to resume next week.

Fletcher's previous work includes last year's Eddie The Eagle, starring Australia's own Hugh Jackman, while he has also appeared in films such as Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and Hotel Babylon, as well as HBO series, Band Of Brothers, and '90s children's show, Press Gang.

Singer was reportedly sacked following rumours of erratic behaviour on set, as well as clashes with his actors, including lead star Rami Malek, who portrays Mercury in the film.

The X-Men director has since denied those claims in a statement.

"I wanted nothing more than to be able to finish this project and help honour the legacy of Freddie Mercury and Queen," he said in a statement.

"… but Fox would not permit me to do so because I needed to temporarily put my health, and the health of my loved ones, first."

Bohemian Rhapsody is expected to be released in December 2018.

Meanwhile, as TMZ reports, Singer has denied allegations he sexually assaulted a 17-year-old male in 2003.
