The Brissy prog monsters will be touting the new tune on a 10-date jaunt around the country this October and November.

More Osaka Punch More Osaka Punch

Brisbane-bred prog heroes Osaka Punch are jazz-funking their way back into the spotlight with their stupendous new single How We Operate, complementing the fresh tune by announcing a stack of shows around the country to boot.

The groove-heavy new track continues the band's journey from the band's lauded 2016 album Death Monster Super Squad, and is jam-packed with all the irreverent goodness fans have come to expect from their unpredictable oeuvre. According to frontman Jack Muzak, the song's origins lie in a sex motel in Manila, though it's hard to tell exactly how much of its history is the gospel truth.

"I wrote the lyrics to this song while on a six-hour transit in Manila," Muzak explained in a statement. "I wanted to go somewhere peaceful to listen to the track and knuckle down so I went to a hotel close to the airport.

"I should've sensed something was awry when the guy at reception asked how many hours I needed the room. 'Just six hours,' I replied, and he looked impressed. When I got to my room it was really nice, and looked massive. This was of course an optical illusion, as the entire ceiling was covered in mirrors, and I realised I was in a sex motel.

"Not to be outdone by the moans and groans coming from the adjacent rooms, I started singing out loud, as I felt the sexual funk creep up inside me. After about half an hour, I decided to eat the mint that'd been left on my pillow, only to realise it was, in fact, a condom thoughtfully left for me by the concierge. These are the lyrics that fell out of me that day."

(We really hope at least some of these events are embellished for effect. But hey, if not, at least he made the best of an unfortunate situation.)

Osaka Punch will kick off their How We Operate tour mid-next month in Melbourne, heading on to stages in Adelaide, Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong, Brisbane, Maroochydore, Bunbury, Margaret River and Perth, where they wrap things up at The Sewing Room on Saturday 25 November.
