The hardworking local instrumental-rock lords are setting off for another sojourn to cap off a massive year of touring.

Revered Australian instrumental rockers sleepmakeswaves have announced a year-ending national tour with stalwart US post-metal outfit Rosetta to cap off what's been an already-massive year of live performance.

Kicking off at Perth's Badlands on Tuesday 5 December, the five-date run will see the lauded four-piece hit club stages in Adelaide (licensed all ages), Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney in a return to the band's roots of more intimate, ever-intense performances.

"This band started in small clubs around Australia, and it's in rooms these size where we honed our live performances," guitarist Otto Wicks-Green said in a statement. "The intimacy, the intensity, the heat. A visceral and immediate live show is heart and soul of this band, so we were very specific in selecting each of these rooms for this tour."

Wicks-Green says tour-mates Rosetta are "one of our all-time favourite bands" — not to mention previous road companions from a few years back — meaning this team-up is "the cherry on the cake" that has been their more-than-60-date-strong year of touring at home and internationally.

"We're stoked to be bringing out one of the most powerful live acts we've seen on a tour that is more scaled-down and intimate," he said. "Rosetta bring a relentless atmospheric catharsis to their shows, and really fit their description 'metal for astronauts'.

"On top of all that, they're our old friends from tours in 2012 and we can't wait to see their faces again. These will be special, crushing, intimate performances, so don't sleep on tickets. Come get heavy with us."

These shows will be the closing point of an absolutely stellar 12 months for the band, which included not only their extensive live stints but the release of their acclaimed third album, Made Of Breath Only, as well as other achievements including becoming the first instrumental band to lay down a cover on triple j's venerated Like A Version program.
