Holy shit hOLY SHIT

More Briggs More Briggs

Acclaimed rapper Briggs has landed what could justifiably be described as "everyone's dream job" as one of the writers on Disenchantment, the upcoming new Netflix animated series created by The Simpsons and Futurama mastermind Matt Groening.

In typically casual style, Briggs announced his involvement on Twitter this morning, saying, "You may have read that Matt Groening has created a new series. Today I can finally tell you, I'm a writer for it."

He then went on to post a photo of himself with Groening and former Simpsons showrunners Josh Weinstein and Bill Oakley (who went on to create the underappreciated Mission Hill) and ex-Simpsons writer and Futurama developer David X. Cohen, all of whom have reunited with Groening to work on Disenchantment, which is sounding better and better by the minute.

"Being part of the #Disenchantment world has been literally a dream come true," Briggs wrote, describing the experience as being in the "NBA of comedy".

Briggs acknowledged Weinstein as being the man who seems to have brought him aboard, thanking him for the opportunity before promising, "I won't let you down… Well I might let you down on 'Silly Sailor'."

Ah, Simpsons references already. It's a thing of beauty.

Also joining the writing staff are Gravity Falls and Regular Show scribe Shion Takeuchi and Superstore's Jeny Batten.

As Deadline reports, they join a voice cast that includes the core trio of Abbi Jacobson (Broad City), Eric Andre (Man Seeking Woman, The Eric Andre Show) and Nat Faxon (Ben & Kate, Married) as, respectively, alcoholic princess Bean, her personal demon Luci and elf companion Elfo.

Also aboard are Futurama alumni John DiMaggio, Billy West and Maurice LaMarche, long-time Groening collaborator Tress MacNeille, The IT Crowd's Matt Berry, fellow Brit Lucy Montgomery, Office Space's David Herman and The Mighty Boosh's Noel Fielding and Rich Fulcher. (Told you: better. by. the. minute.)

The show has been approved for two seasons of 10 episodes apiece. Set in a mediaeval fantasy city called Dreamland, Groening says that Disenchantment "will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you".

Forgive us for being so pre-emptive here, but this show is obviously going to rule. Go get 'em, Briggs.

Disenchanment is set to premiere in 2018.
