Bringin' banjos back, baby

Los Angelean folk singer-songwriter Eddie Berman is readying himself for the release of his new album, Before The Bridge, in September, and ahead of its arrival The Music is stoked to be premiering his sublime and stripped-back rendition of Kurt Vile's Pretty Pimpin.

Flanked by just a dexterously plucked banjo, Berman echoes Vile's down-home twang — right down to the gloriously drawled pronunciation of 'mee-rror' — but injects the tune with a little more urgency, hushed though it is, than the ambling, easygoing original version possesses.

It carries a little like a countrified Seven Swans-era Sufjan Stevens, it's a lovely little cover that allows Berman the chance to both pay homage to a truly great track as well as show off his considerable talents on the ol' four-and-a-half-string. Heck, yeah.

Before The Bridge follows on from Berman's acclaimed 2014 debut full-length, Polyhymnia, and features tracks such as recently released singles Easy Rider and Untamed. It's due out on Friday 1 September through Nettwerk Records.
