“My status as a gay icon has been waning over the last few years and needed a reboot.”

Tex Perkins is one of a number of Melbourne musicians and personalities to feature in upcoming independent queer film, Fags In The Fastlane.

The film, following in the direction of a number of LGBT cult classics such as The Gay Deceivers and The Pink Angels, is set in a fantasy world where the hero embarks on a quest for a good luck charm in the form of a golden… umm… member.

Fags In The Fastlane is also backed by a kickarse soundtrack, with the likes of Raul Sanchez, King Khan, Hot Wings and The Seven Ups all featured.

“I got involved with the folks from Fags In The Fast Lane firstly because my bud Raul Sanchez was doing the music but mostly because I liked the idea of the movie appearing in my CV,” Perkins, who narrates the film, told The Music.

The premier screening of Fags In The Fast Lane will take place at St Kilda's Astor Theatre on Tuesday, 27 June.

“This movie is as brazen as its title suggests, and it’s going to be great to see every madcap idea we put in the script three years ago, ending up on the big screen at the Astor,” director Josh “Sinbad” Collins said.

“Magic Golden Cocks, amyl nitrate sniffing giantesses, badass police, disco mutants, androgenous Elvis assassins, kickboxing drag queens, and loud muscular men with big exhausts.”
