Dark Mofo Lock In Pussy Riot, Nai Palm On Insanely Cool Second Announcement

Oof, Dark Mofo looks real dark this year

Joining the stellar first line-up including Scottish legends Mogwai, Norway's Ulver, Paul Kelly and more, today Dark Mofo have added a slew of exciting acts for this year's "slightly saturnalian" winter festival, including controversial Russian activists Pussy Riot, New York City rapper Le1f, vocalist and songwriter of Hiatus Kaiyote, Nai Palm, and many more.

Feminist punks Pussy Riot will lead the announce by attending the screening of the Evgeny Mitta-directed documentary, Act & Punishment, after which the collective's Maria "Masha" Vladimirovna Alyokhina, Alexandra "Sasha" Lukyanova Bogino, and Alexander Cheparukhin. will partake in a Q&A.

Austrian avant-garde artist Hermann Nitsch will join us In Conversation about his work at this year's massive event, following huge controversy about his polarising show 150.Action which utilises a bull carcass.

Other gigs from the likes of UK's Gaika and Kojey Radical, Melbourne's own post-punk heroes Gold Class and Scott & Charlene's Wedding will also be on offer amid a broad spectrum of film screenings (1998's The Boys, 2016's Killing Ground, 2016's Dead Hands Dig Deep and more).

Experimental Melbourne percussionist Maria Moles will create an eerie live score for 1922's silent film Haxan about witchcraft, too, alongside the previously announced live score for the music of Twin Peaks by USA's Xiu Xiu.

Welcome Stranger, Dark Mofo's colossal late night offering across multiple venues, will feature a DJ set from Pussy Riot and shows from Spike Fuck, Betty Grumble, Doug Hream Blunt, OK EG and many, many more.

The infamous Dark Mofo will take over Hobart's MONA from June 8 to 21 — check out the full second announcement below and head to Dark Mofo's website for more info.
