More Amy Shark More Amy Shark

Pop-punk icon and extraterrestrial-activity enthusiast Tom DeLonge has expressed his admiration for in-demand Australian singer-songwriter Amy Shark, heaping praise on the Adore scribe on social media this morning.

In a post shared on Instagram and Facebook (as well as mentioning it on Twitter — we guess he just really wanted to tell people), DeLonge — he formerly of blink-182 — explained that he had previously "had the pleasure" of meeting Shark and her husband, Shane, describing them as "two great people that supported me throughout all of my musical adventures".

"Now, after a decade of (largely unnoticed) work, she has exploded and [hit] #1 in Australia," he wrote, slightly inaccurately (her Night Thinker EP actually made its debut at #2, blocked from the top spot by the hitherto immovable Ed Sheeran, while Adore peaked at #3 in the wake of her triple j Hottest 100 result).

"A synth-pop blend of Indie-Rock and Emotion, I could not be happier for her and her husband, who is her number one fan!…. Do more than follow her, buy her music."

While she may not have actually taken #1, it's hard to argue with the notion that Shark — who spent the first half of her career playing as Amy Cushway — has had an awesome, hugely rewarding run so far in 2017, first nabbing #2 on the Hottest 100 before going on to win multiple categories at both the Qld Music Awards and recent Gold Coast Music Awards.

She's also knocked over a national tour, is currently appearing at Groovin The Moo, and is set to perform at Splendour In The Grass in July, so don't expect the momentum to let up just yet.

The praise has not escaped Shark's notice, who responded simply on Facebook, "Thanks King".

And, hey, say what you will about DeLonge's recent pursuits — at least he still knows good music when he hears it.
