Farnesy, Gunners & Nirvana: Here Are MAX's Top Ten Songs Ever Made

It's definitely a rockin' list!

Over the long, long weekend, MAX enlisted Aussie legend Molly Meldrum to host the ultimate music countdown — the 1000 Greatest Songs Of All Time — and in case you didn't catch it, we've got the top ten for you right here.

Though the top ten won't really surprise you, the full list boasted the most entries from U2 with 14 songs (including #1000 with Desire). Of the 1000, 37% of the songs were from the '80s, 24% from the '90s and there were 11 Johns, four Georges, a King, a Prince and a Queen.

Further, 31 artists in the countdown were known simply by a mononym — Cher, Madonna, Sia and Prince all included (though we think Kylie pretty much goes by a mononym too).

You can peep the entire 1000-song list here if you so desire — many more modern pop classics (Waterfalls by TLC #455, Whatta Man — Salt N Pepa #267), rock faves (Thunderstruck — AC/DC #119, Don't Stand So Close To Me — The Police #642) and recent hits (Uptown Funk — Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars #54, Thinking Out Loud, Ed Sheeran #97) also make the cut.

(Interestingly, the list doesn't include your favourite Liverpool quartet, The Beatles, mainly because the band and their label do not grant permission for their videos to be broadcasted on TV.)

And with that, here are the top ten songs ever, judged using viewer votes, feedback from music industry experts, chart ratings and general song popularity.
