And what a tour it was.

More Adele More Adele

After smashing peak attendance records at every venue of her debut Australian tour, Adele has now joined an elite club alongside rock icons AC/DC.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the UK superstar's run is now one of the biggest-selling stadium tours in the country, alongside Acca Dacca's 2010 Black Ice tour and Dire StraitsBrothers In Arms tour in 1986.

While Dire Straits and AC/DC clinched their records with 48 and 12 shows respectively, Adele astoundingly played to more than 600,000 fans in just eight concerts.

The 28-year-old's debut show of the country in Perth last month broke the attendance record with 65,000 punters turning out for the gig and the West Australian Football Commission later confirmed that the Domain Stadium concert was the fastest sell-out and the highest-selling concert ever at the venue.

The following two gigs in Brisbane again set new attendance records, while Adele's Sydney gig on 10 March was the biggest single concert Australia has ever seen as she performed to over 95,000 fans.

Her show at Adelaide Oval the following week proved to be the largest attendance for a concert in South Australia and for any event held at the venue since the 1965 SANFL grand final.

The tour ended in Melbourne this past week where she again shattered the attendance record at Etihad Stadium two nights in a row.

Adele will kick off the first of three New Zealand shows in Auckland tonight, with ticket sales already in excess of 130,000; a new record for any concert tour of the country and nearly 40,000 more than any other artist has sold.

"It has been both a privilege and truly a career highlight for all at Live Nation to have been able to present Adele's record-breaking Australian and New Zealand tour," Live Nation Australiasia Chairman, Michael Coppel, said.

"The audiences have been ecstatic at their opportunity to see a true superstar at her peak, and, as the tour promoters, we have been gratified to be able to fully satisfy the expectations of Adele’s management, agent, production and security teams in the presentation of such a high profile and challenging series of major concert events."
