Adele has been blowing Australia away throughout her debut tour of the country these past few weeks and the UK superstar has proved she can still own an audience even when performing isn't an option.

As News.com.au reports, the 28-year-old was forced to wing it on stage for four minutes during her show at Adelaide Oval on Monday night after the lights and backing music suddenly shut off due to a blackout.

Adele took on the power cut like a champ and ad-libbed with the 70,000-plus crowd, telling a not-so-PG joke.

"Shall I tell you my filthy joke despite all the children here? I need more applause than that because I might offend someone," she asked the crowd as the stage crew tended to the technical difficulties.

"What do you call a blonde standing on her head? A brunette with bad breath."

It wasn't long before the issues were fixed and Adele performed the final song of the night.

"I'm sorry about the power cut tonight," she said.

"You'll never guess what it was? So you know the band's stage starts revolving after a little while, well, as the stage revolved it pulled the power plug out so all the instruments went off.

"I won't be revolving that stage again, will I? Thank you for your patience with my absolutely useless banter and thank you for putting up with some terrible jokes."

Adele also took the opportunity to address the relevation that she is wheeled out in a box to the stage for all of her shows without the crowd knowing.

According to Adelaide Now, the Grammy Award-winner said, "Thank God the Australian press outed me — I'm not getting in that box again".
