Applications are open now

It's that time of year again, when the industry boffins at the Phonographic Performance Company Of Australia (PPCA) and the Australia Council For The Arts open their hearts and wallets to the nation's hard-working artists, offering a chance at a $15,000 for recording with their third round of joint grants.

Following successful applications in 2016 from the likes of Martha Marlow, Barney McAll, Robbie Miller, Sophie Payten, Sean Congues and Children Collide's Johnny Mackay, the industry organisations have once again teamed up to give recording artists a leg-up towards laying down new work.

Applications for the 2017 round are open now, through till 26 April, on the Australia Council's website.

"We are really pleased to be able to offer these grants again, and contribute to the diversity of Australian music," PPCA chief executive Dan Rosen said in a statement.

"The response to last year's initiative was incredibly strong and a great indication of the quality of our recording artists. We look forward to working with the Australia Council again to help more local artists realise their musical ambition."

Only individual artists are eligible to apply for the grants (although groups can skirt this by nominating a single member to apply on their behalf). Ineligible artists include those who have previously received or administered a grant from the Australia Council and not satisfactorily acquitted it, or those who owe money to the Australia Council.

Selection is based on three broad categories: Artistic Merit, Diversity and Viability, along with relevant support material including artistic examples and letters of confirmation.

Successful applicants for this year's grant pool will be expected to commence their project after 26 June.
