They refuse to budge.

The State Government has shut down calls to introduce pill testing in Melbourne just weeks after one died and many more were hospitalised due to a suspected toxic batch of MDMA

According to News Corp, the government rejected the movement led by Prahran state Greens MP, Sam Hibbins.

"I have serious concerns about the ongoing health and safety of punters at Chapel St nightclubs who are still at risk from these drugs," Hibbins said.

"Pill testing can reduce harm and save lives by making information about dangerous drug substances publicly available."

Spokeswoman for Minister for Health Martin Foley, Georgia Brumby, responded by saying the government currently have no intention to introduce pill testing.

"We will consider calls for a real time public database of forensic information collected by police and hospitals and await the findings of the coroner’s hearing into overdoses," Brumby said.

The news comes as police increase patrols in the Chapel Street precinct, for fears that the toxic batch of drugs have spread.
