Kevin Parker Says Tame Impala Are Going On Hiatus

Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker has announced that the band will be taking an extended break following their appearance at Laneway Festival next year.

The 30-year-old singer confirmed the Aussie festival spots will be the last show for the Perth outfit for some time, having toured around the world in support of their 2015 Grammy-nominated and ARIA-winning LP, Currents.

"I really don't know how that’s going to feel because in the past, the album cycles haven’t really ended with a bang, or even ended decidedly," Parker said in an interview with Noted.

"They just sort of peter out. But this time it really is a bookend.

"I’m glad it's happening at Laneway. There will be tears and cheers, and emotions will be running high. I think it’ll be quite weird, but not without a sense of accomplishment."

It's probably a bit too early for Tame Impala fans to be concerned about whether this is the end for the band, though Parker admitted his future plans are still up in the air. 

"What comes next is still very much a blank canvas," he said.

"But a blank canvas in a good way – I’ve got all the paint!"
