Why You Should Avoid Taking Your Phone Out At Green Day's Aussie Shows Next Year

US pop-punk heavyweights Green Day are set to hit Australia next year for a massive tour and frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has given fair warning to local punters heading to the shows — don't bring your phones out. 

Speaking to Daily Star, the 44-year-old singer admitted that seeing fans in the crowd whip out their phones during their show really gets under his skin. 

"Social media can be a very miserable place to be," Armstrong said.

"At our shows I see lot of people holding up cell phones. You can look at a screen at home; you can look at your computer or your phone anywhere."

While he acknowledges people will be inclined to at least take a photo at the gigs, he wants fans to be in the moment with the band.

“You can take your picture but let’s have eye contact, let’s have a human experience right now you can’t capture on a cell phone," he continued.

"Why would you want to listen to your favourite song going like this [holds arm in air] when you can just hear it right in front of you? I feel like a little more human contact is good."
