Organisers release statement.

Despite their best efforts to give Australia a new rock and metal spectacle, organisers of Legion Music Festival have today announced the event has been cancelled.

"Due to a number of business considerations, we have made the decision to not proceed with the proposed launch of Legion Music Fest in January 2017," organisers said in a statement.

"The organisers thank all Aussie metal fans for their continued support."

Founded by former Devil You Know drummer, John Sankey, Legion was brought to life following the demise of Soundwave festival in late 2015.

Initially launched as a Pozible campaign, the festival was to hold its inaugural run throughout Australia in January next year with bands including Lordi, Devil Driver, 28 Days and Dream on Dreamer included on the bill.

Undisclosed industry sources say the move may be due to Legion organisers working on a rumored international venture late in 2017.
