More soul, rhythm and blues than you could shake your hips at

More CW Stoneking More CW Stoneking

Australian punters are in for a treat of the highest order in March when the swampy rhythm-and-blues of local showman C.W. Stoneking joins forces with Colorado-bred soul-and-R&B luminaries Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats.

The pair of acts will let fly with a trio of shows, in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, the last of which will also see Fraser A. GormanSugar Fed Leopards and Cadillac Drifters on the bill for a special pre-Labour Day event in Williamstown dubbed Shindig By The Sea.

The trip will make it Rateliff and his band's second visit in just under a year — they were here earlier in 2016 for Bluesfest and the usual complement of complimented sideshows — so the return trip will be welcome news for those fans who didn't get a chance to see them on their most recent sojourn.

Their performances are, after all, becoming increasingly renowned affairs; they sold out the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, cramming in a crowd of 9500 people, and scored a bunch of late-night TV appearances to boot.

That said, those who've been waiting since before their last trip will still have to get in line with the return crowd, since Rateliff and his band will touch down next year touting newly released EP A Little Something More From Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, which, along with the aforementioned raved-about live shows, is plenty of incentive to get out and see them in action anew.

The added bonus of Stoneking as co-headliner is just delicious, deep-south-style, home-made icing on the tour's musical cake.

His third studio album, Gon' Boogaloo, turned two years old in October, but given that it's still yielding big returns for the local singer-songwriter as it steadily earns broad recognition further and further afield, it's unlikely that we've seen the last of it just yet.

Still, Stoneking has never been one to rest on his laurels, so expect the bowtie-loving troubadour to have at least a few surprises up his immaculate sleeves.

Tickets for C.W. Stoneking and Nathaniel Rateliff's co-headline tour, proudly presented by The Music, go on sale tomorrow, 3 November, via promoters Love Police Touring.
