The Substation Celebrates Centenary And Announces 2016 Program

The Substation will celebrate 100 years this year, and has announced a new program under the leadership of new director Brad Spolding.

The program will build on the foundations of its unique architecture and key collaborations with audiences, communities and artists. It launches on 30 Jan with the biggest party of Midsumma Festival: Miss Gay & Miss Transsexual Australia, hosted by Tristan Meecham. 

Other works in the program include large scale billboard works by Sydney artist Justin Shoulder; a new work from Melbourne company All The Queens Men called The Coming Back Out Ball which shines a light on the discrimination faced by LGBTI seniors in aged care facilities; a self-guided tour called The Newport Archives, created by Tamara Saulwick; performative lecture Unpacking The Vietnam Archive Project by Phuong Ngo and Jude Anderson (Punctum), as part of Human Rights Arts & Film Festival; and much more. 

Spolding says that 80% of the new program will be free.
