Uh, Idris Elba Is DJing In Sydney Tomorrow Night & It's Freeeeeee

It turns out that the lauded actor is a dab hand at the decks too

If you're out at Goodbar in Sydney tomorrow night, you may be fortunate enough to catch a DJ set from celebrated thespian Idris Elba — if you're able to get in, that is, because it's free entry to boot.

Best known for his work on The Wire, his central role in the upcoming The Dark Tower series and his recurring role in the Thor franchise, Elba actually has quite the musical history (he released his first EP, Big Man, back in 2006), which we somewhat recently acknowledged when he released an album of South African-inspired music in 2014, following his appearance as Nelson Mandela in biopic Long Walk To Freedom.

His talents run far broader and deeper than that single release, though, with the man having been keeping musically busy with most recent project Hiatus, dropping a new single in the form of certifiable banger Spectacle, and surprising the pants off the internet, back in June.

Perhaps we shouldn't have been so shocked, though; as Goodbar's own event page explains, before breaking through on-screen, Elba "was deep into house music" and recently completed a run of DJ sets at Output (New York), Egg (London) and even Glastonbury festival ahead of his surprise announcement as a Thursday-night drawcard at the newly opened Goodbar.
