Oz-rock legend Jimmy Barnes will add his unique voice to the mix on next week's episode of Q&A, it has been announced.

The musical icon will join host Tony Jones along with a panel comprised of celebrated comedian and author Magda Szubanski, deputy Nationals leader Fiona Nash, manager of Opposition business Tony Burke and independent Tasmanian senator Jacqui Lambie.

Along with no doubt robust debate, the episode will feature a closing performance from Barnes and his daughter Mahalia of his song The Dark End Of The Street, taken from his most recent solo effort Soul Searchin', his fourth collection of soul and R&B songs, following 2009's The Rhythm & The Blues. The recorded version of the track features guest vocals from septuagenarian US singer-songwriter Dan Penn.

Musicians who have previously appeared as guests on the program include US roots artist Michael Franti, Aussie rapper 360 and fellow local Kate Miller-Heidke, while veteran singer-songwriter Katie Noonan made a recent appearance from the audience to grill Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull over arts funding.
