The Australian live music scene has become unsafe, with sexual and physical assaults, often against women, an increasingly common occurrence at gigs.

This is the message indie rock trio Camp Cope are spreading to try and raise awareness and improve safety at Aussie gig venues.

Along with an impressive roll call of music industry advocates – including Poison City Records, Chris Farren, Courtney Barnett & Jen Cloher, triple j’s Dom Alessio, Totally Unicorn, Frenzal Rhomb, The Hard Aches, Redgum, The Sugarcanes, Jeff Rosenstock, Cable Ties, The Old Bar, The Bennies, The Jezebels, Immigrant Union, Harmony, King Parrot, Clowns and Luca Brasi – Camp Cope are spearheading the #ItTakesOne” campaign.

“Every single person at a show is important, and every single person at a show can make a significant difference," Camp Cope said of the project.

"It takes one person to fuck a show up for everyone, and likewise it takes one person to call out this behaviour and initiate change.

“It’s up to everyone – the artists, the audience and the venue – to look out for each other and stand up when they see or hear of someone trying to fuck the show up for everyone.”

The band are calling on more Australian artists to join the campaign, noting that performers often feel personally responsible if someone is assaulted at their shows.
