Globally revered creative-industries mecca South By Southwest has unveiled the first 50 or so acts set to descend upon Austin for next year's installation of the annual showcase and conference, nine of whom are acclaimed Australian acts both truly emergent and a little more established.

Among the ranks of local artists set to hit the States in March is lauded up-and-comer Alex Lahey, who's presently set Brisbane-town abuzz ahead of her impending performance at BIGSOUND this evening, as well as eclectic, electric electronic songstress Wafia, cult-fave singer-songwriter Oscar Key Sung, Seekae member-turned-solo act Alex Cameron, ascendant chanteuse Vera Blue, Melburnian 'dirty disco' purveyor Throttle, Sydney duo Polarheart, electro-experimentalist Running Touch and rising voice Demi Louise

"From 2002, where only five homegrown bands were invited to play, to 2016's 30th year where over 40 showcased, Australia has created a powerful and unique brand at SXSW," the festival's Australian representative, Phil Tripp, said in a statement.

"These nine bands represent just the initial force of an Aussie Army that will hit the shores of the US from March 14-19 with bands from over 60 countries duking it out at the crash barriers of the 'Live Music Capital Of The World'."

The local contingent will once again be guided at the event under the care of music-export heroes Sounds Australia, which, yes, will be staging its now-legendary yearly event, the Aussie BBQ, once again in 2017, in Brush Park.
