"Let’s build an apartment block!”

Singer and satirist Denis Carnahan, best known for his That's In Queensland! rugby league parody, has dropped a new track, this time taking aim at NSW Premier Mike Baird and his government over the lockout laws, among other issues.

Set to the tune of Joni Mitchell's Big Yellow Taxi, Carnahan's Casinos & Apartment Blocks accuses Baird of putting the controversial laws in place to make way for new apartments.

Meanwhile, staying on lockouts, beloved Kiwi actor Sam Neill has also blasted the legislation, saying it has "taken the guts" out of Sydney.

As Fairfax reports, the Jurassic Park star spoke at Monday's Tropfest announcement and said, "Sydney (in the 1970s) seemed to me to be the most vibrant place in the world and I think a lot of that vibrancy has been sucked out of the place.

"I particularly lament this lockout which has taken the guts out of the nightlife of Sydney. And Sydney without nightlife is kind of a pointless place.

"I don't really want to see Adelaide being a place to go for a good weekend."

Baird recently said he is open to recommendations when former judge Ian Callinan hands in his review of the lockouts at the end of this month.
