A snapshot of Adelaide's thriving music scene

With a noticeable shift in Adelaide’s presence on the Australian music scene over the past 12 months, the genre nominees for the 2016 South Australian Music Awards showcases just how diverse and powerful the talent in the booming state is.

Proudly presented by The Music, the second iteration of the local music celebration will take place at the prestigious Norwood Concert Hall on Friday 11 November with a new format where locals Bad//DreemsJimmy Marin, Kate Fuller, Tom West and other nominees will be thrust under the spotlight for not only their contributions to the Adelaide live scene, but collaborative efforts in giving SA a place on the global stage.

It's a shift we at The Music has been keeping an eye on as we further establish our presence in Adelaide, with on-the-ground writers in the thick of it, so we’re proud to be hosting the public voted categories this year, which close on Sept 18 before the top five nominees for each genre are named on Oct 10 in preparation for the main event when all other nominations (Best Song, Best Album, etc.) are also unveiled.

Unlike last year, the 2016 awards night will be a formal seated event, with a three course dinner to accompany to-be-announced live entertainment from some of those nominated acts and a local supergroup curated by musical director Ross McHenry who will, among other things, give their own reinterpretations of the 2016 Best Song nominees.
