Welcome to the future.

In what is a first for the Australian music industry, the Live Music Office has today launched the national Live Music Map — an online tool designed to help artists and those in the industry create new opportunities.

From highlighting music venues around the country, radio stations, recording and rehearsal spaces, music education centres and more, the Live Music Map offers a platform to connect the live music sector in a way it never has before.

Developed in association with the South Australian government through the Music Development Office and the Australian Music Radio Airplay Project, Audience & Sector Development Director for the Live Music Office, Damian Cunningham, describes the map as "a resource to all levels of the industry".

"What we’ve tried to do is create a digital overview of live music and live music touring," Cunningham tells theMusic.

"So for instance, say you've got a gig in Adelaide on one Saturday and Melbourne the following Saturday and you want to play a weeks worth of shows in between...you can then look [at the map] and say, 'OK visually I'm going to be driving this way and this way, let's find these venues'."

The map also provides opportunities for venues around the country as well as artists, as it currently holds over 3400 listings.

"They might not be on everybody’s hit list, they might be a new venue," Cunningham says.

"It really is trying to take a complex situation and make it as simple as possible."

"It’s a level to allow more jobs and more creation," he continues.

"More artistic jobs, more successful venues, creating more artists and then the greater connect for the support industries."

The Live Music Map has taken over 12 months to put together and Cunningham hopes it will become a driving force for the live music industry.

"I would like to see it as a strong go-to resource for the entire industry," he says.

"It will develop itself and we’ll see the wants and needs of what the community wants…there will be a response to that."

To be included on the Live Music Map, businesses can submit their details at the Live Music Office website.
