The ascendant dance artist makes her mark with inaugural solo cut 'Call On Me'

Up-and-coming musician Starley has seen quite the turnaround in fortunes since she wrote the tune that would go on to become debut single Call On Me; in fact, not so long ago, she was actively considering throwing in the whole music thing in its entirety.

It's probably fortunate she didn't, however, with the ascendant artist being announced as the newest signing to esteemed dance label Tinted Records for the release of her inaugural solo cut, coming on the heels of a successful introduction as featured artist on Odd Mob's recent banger Into You, which spent a sensational seven weeks atop the ARIA Club Chart to become the year's highest-performing club track so far.

Given the accolades heaped upon her since she broke through, it's hard to fathom that she came close to moving on from pursuing music at all, describing the period when she wrote Call On Me — the first single to be taken from her impending debut album — as "a low point" in her life.

"I wrote it in my bedroom late one night, on the keyboard," Starley said in a statement. "Since I can remember, all I’ve wanted to do was write and sing. I even moved country to pursue my dream and spent years in London, struggling with money, but still believing I would make it. I’d finally got to the point where I was feeling helpless and wanted to give up. I was thinking of walking away from music altogether… That reality was heartbreaking for me.

"One night, this song just poured out of me. It became a way of telling myself it was going to be OK; almost like an encouragement. It was as if I had created my own lighthouse; a beacon to help me realise my dreams are not impossible. I can do this… I’ll figure it out. I just need to follow my intuition and essentially, call on myself."
