Falls Festival To Break Traditional Format With WA Debut

The long-running East Coast event is coming to Fremantle

A staple on the East Coast festival calendar, New Year’s Eve camping event Falls Festival has unveiled plans to branch into WA next year, breaking “traditional format” to descend on Fremantle in January for a two-day debut.

The Falls Music & Arts Festival will head to WA on January 7 — 8, with an array of local, national and international talent promised (no doubt somewhat mirroring the East Coast events), but instead of setting up on an oval or reserve, the Fremantle leg will consume historic buildings and surrounding streets for Falls Downtown, with the main stage to be located in the town square and the abandoned Myer building brought to life

The Town Hall Atrium will be utilised for a 19th century ballroom style venue and St John’s Anglican Church will also be part of the action, and, in traditional Falls fashion, food, performance art, community involvement, market stalls and more will all be on show.

Falls Festival kicked off in 1993, and takes over Yelgunm (New South Wales), Lorne (Victoria), and Marion Bay (Tasmania) each year, with 2015 featuring sets from Bloc Party, Foals, Disclosure and more.
