Willy Wonka + Vatican Bashing = Insanely Bizarre Australian Sex Party Election Video

This is ballsy.

With the Federal Election just days away, the Australian Sex Party has found a way to bring some comic relief, albeit controversial comic relief, into the equation with the release of a new election ad in the form of a musical number.

Based to the tune of Willy Wonka classic The Candy Man Can, the video entitled #VaticanCan portrays a priest singing and dancing around a church, all while taking direct shots at the Catholic Church and the Vatican on issues such as marriage equality, euthanasia and tax reform for religious institutions (and yes, that is Jesus bopping his head along to the tune in the background).

"Who controls the weddings so gays can't say I do? Blame it on a book and a 2000 year old Jew...the Vatican can cause it sticks its nose right in to make the world less good," is just one example of some of the ballsy lyrics featured in the song.

"Most Australians probably think there's a clear separation of church and state like in the US, but there's not," leader of the Australian Sex Party, Fiona Patten, told SBS' The Feed

"That separation is not recognised in our constitution. I think people would be surprised to know that."

Patten insists however that the video has drawn very little criticism from the Catholic community.

"Catholics and atheists alike are having a bit of a laugh at it," Patten said.

"That's the beauty of Australians; we can laugh at ourselves."

"We're the only political party that puts humour in their campaigns," she continued.

"More really should."
