Norwegian punk quartet SLUTFACE have revealed they've changed their name to include a slashed o instead of a u, owing the change to social media censorship and being "shut out of certain opportunities as a band".

The new and improved SLØTFACE said in an official statement that the change had not changed their "political and feminist message" in the slightest.

"We just hope to reach more people with our lyrics and message by changing one silly letter of our name and thereby avoiding censorship.

"Also we like the connection to our Nordic roots and hope we can trick Mark Zuckerberg into promoting SLØTFACE music. Løv Sløts."

To coincide with the new band name, the band have also dropped a new single titled Sponge State, said to be a "reaction to the apathy and lack of action that is symptomatic of our generation" by singer Haley Shea.

SLØTFACE's debut EP is due out 27 May via Propeller Records/Caroline Australia.
