Australian DJ Tigerlily, real name Dara Hayes, has claimed that nude footage of herself, shared on the Snapchat app, has been "ripped, edited and distributed" without her consent.

According to news.com.au, the video was filmed in a Munich hotel by Hayes' tour manager three weeks ago.

"I’d just taken a shower and I put on the white hotel robe. She filmed a Snapchat video on her phone. We were having a bit of a laugh and being silly and I flashed her," Hayes said.

"She edited the video before she uploaded it. She made it black and white and then sped it up, so the Snapchat was only about two seconds in length, because it was going so fast.

"She covered my private parts with emojis and squiggles. You couldn’t see anything. She showed it to me, I had a laugh about it and I said it was fine for her to post it. I didn’t think twice about it,” she said.

The Sydney-based musician claims that whoever leaked the footage was able to remove the "emojis and squiggles" with a separate editing app, before distributing the video.

In a statement released on her Facebook page this morning, Hayes called the act a "sex crime".

"The content that has been ripped from Snapchat, edited and distributed is being done so against my will," the statement reads.

"As Jennifer Lawrence said 'It is not a scandal. It is a sex crime. It is a sexual violation. It's disgusting.' How would you feel if this was happening to your best friend, your sister, or your girlfriend? It wouldn't be such a laugh then I'm sure?

"I’ve spoken out many times against misogyny, sexism and online bullying, and in the past 24 hours I’ve seen just how vulgar and childish some people can be. Although the crime that has been committed is NOT OK, being proud of your body and who you are IS OK. Girls - Do not ever be ashamed of your body. Do not ever let anyone else ever treat you with anything but absolute respect. You and your body are completely perfect just the way you are and you all deserve to know that and be told that each and every day."
