Why You Need To Check Out Iconic Label Sub Pop's New Podcast

It's a big deal.

Seattle-based record label Sub Pop first rose to fame in the late '80s due to the signings of iconic bands such as Nirvana and Soundgarden and this month the renowned company have launched a brand new podcast which delves into some of its biggest moments, highlights and classic stories told straight from figures and artists within the label.

Speaking to theMusic, Sub Pop General Manager Chris Jacobs says that the podcast is just as much about hearing stories from big names as it is emerging talent.

"We’re just as interested in talking to the medium and small names, and it matters more what any of these folks have to say than the relative size of their names," Jacobs explains.

With four episodes already under their belt, Jacobs says that it is still unclear how long the podcast will last, though they are committed to completing two seasons.

Having only been founded just weeks ago, the podcast has already featured some notable guest spots such as Mudhoney frontman Mark Arm, Cat Harris-White of THEESatisfaction, Shearwater's Jonathan Meiburg and Ben Bridwell of Band Of Horses, as well as a number of industry figures, including Sub Pop's Head of A&R, Tony Kiewel.

The show is recorded in-house by long-term employee Alissa Atkins and Arwen Nicks, with a new episode released every Wednesday.

"The most important goal is to produce a good show and to have a good time doing it," Jacobs continues.

"It is our further hope that doing so will provide us with a new way of communicating with existing fans of the label and the artists we work with, and help find new fans of both as well."

Jacobs encourages fans to get in touch with the Sub Pop team in regards to who they would like to hear on the show and what they would like to hear discussed.
