Stone reportedly missed out on 20 years worth of payments

Funk legend Sly Stone has reportedly won a case against his former manager and lawyer which will see him awarded $5 million in back royalties.

As Daily Mail reports, Stone – known as Sylvester Stewart to the tax man - claimed he did not receive any royalty payments for 20 years, starting in 1989, as the result of ex-manager Gerald Goldstein and ex-lawyer Glenn Stone making him sign confusing contracts.

An LA jury saw in favour of Sly Stone following two days of deliberation, and now Even St Productions, Goldstein and Glenn Stone will have to pay compensation.

The San Francisco musician, now 71, rose to fame as the driving force behind Sly & The Family Stone in the late ‘60s and throughout the ‘70s, producing hits Everyday People, Dance To The Music and more, but has been living in a van in recent years, stating it was by choice.
