Iggy Pop And Josh Homme To Release Album Together

Seminal proto-punk rocker Iggy Pop has confirmed that he and Queens Of The Stone Age bandleader Josh Homme have teamed up for an album together and will be releasing Post Pop Depression on 18 March.

The super-secret project will be Pop's 17th record and was co-created with songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Homme as producer. 

Pop says of his initial meeting with Homme: "I wanted to be free. To be free, I needed to forget. To forget, I needed music. Josh had that in him, so I set out to provoke an encounter-first with a carefully worded text, followed by a deluge of writings all about me. No composer wants to write about nothing. He got revved up and we had a great big rumble in the desert USA," while Homme added, "This was to go where neither of us had gone before. That was the agreement. And to go all the way."

Post Pop Depression will ultimately be supported by a tour of musicians assembled by Homme himself, including QoTSA's Troy Van Leeuwen and guitarist and producer Matt Sweeney.

Speaking to New York Times, Homme says the duo started writing and recording last January without a record label's backing.

"We paid for whatever ourselves… But it was made to be heard — not to be some quirky thing that we did with our own money, ha ha."

The single Gardenia is already available for those who are pre-ordering the record — it'll be released via Rekords Rekords/Loma Vista/Caroline International.
