Bluesfest Headliner Don McLean Arrested

Camden police report arrest.

US singer-songwriter Don McLean has been arrested and charged with misdemeanour domestic violence just two months out from Byron Bay's Bluesfest which the veteran musician is scheduled to perform at. 

According to WCSH6, the 70-year-old performer was arrested by police without incident in Camden, Maine early Monday morning and was then transported to Knox County Jail shortly after 3am. 

Police have reported that McLean was charged with the lowest-level domestic violence crime. 

Shortly after his arrest, McLean was reportedly released from custody after posting $US10,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Knox County District Court on 22 February.

The New York-born artist is best known for his chart-topping single American Pie from the eponymous album released in 1971.
